Best Practices for Audience-Centered Interactive Presentations

Presentation themes: educational advances in planetariums; inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility

This presentation will cover various methods for interaction during live presentations. What are some best practices, and how can these be utilized both in the dome and in presentations beyond the dome? This presentation will include takeaways from work being done between the California Academy of Sciences and graduate students at the Dominican University of California, who have been assisting the planetarium team in ways to make presentations more accessible, especially for neurodiverse guests. Some examples that will be shared include types of questions to ask audiences, how to determine which methods to use depending on the venue, as well as additional content beyond the presentation itself to facilitate engagement.
