Presentation theme: future sustainability and worldview

The planetarium at the Nagoya City Science Museum features a ZEISS UNIVERSARIUM Model IX opto-mechanical instrument and three sets of Media Globe Σ SE digital systems: a system that projects images onto the entire dome, a system that projects images constantly synchronized with the optical system, such as the Milky Way and constellation pictures, and a panoramic system. With these systems, we provide visitors with the latest astronomical topics, as well as star stories and myths. We also collaborate with universities and other research institutions to visualize astronomical data and project it in the planetarium. In recent years, advances in observational technology and computer simulations have made it possible to obtain a variety of astronomical data. These data have been difficult to understand with conventional flat images, and we project them onto the dome of the planetarium for a wider view, or together with fixed stars, to make them easier to understand. The planetarium also conducts discussions with astronomers during visual presentations. This presentation will introduce the projection system of the planetarium at the Nagoya City Science Museum and the visualization of astronomical data.
