Everyone’s Planetarium: Building Community through Co-Creation in the Dome

Danielle LeBlanc, Caity Sullivan (Museum of Science, Boston MA USA)

Presentation theme: fulldome

The Museum of Science in Boston is continuing to experiment with and expand the ways audiences experience fulldome through innovative programming such as live theater pieces in the Charles Hayden Planetarium, music performances, works based on the sonification of data, and other immersive experiences at the intersection of science, technology, and art. By bringing community and other voices into this work – including Black and Indigenous voices, climate activists, musicians, performance artists, filmmakers, storytellers, digital artists, comedians, and poets, to name a few – we share these powerful tools of the Planetarium with the creative communities around us and invite others to participate directly in the development of these offerings. This presentation will share highlights from the last several years, and will include practical takeaways such as goal-setting, strategies in addressing barriers to this work, and directions for the future.
