Implementing OpenSpace as a Low-Cost Planetarium Solution

Presentation themes: educational advances in planetariums; inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility 

The OpenSpace project is an NASA-funded collaborative project to develop free, open-source astronomy visualization and planetarium presentation software that anyone can download, install, and explore. Presenters in this workshop have all used OpenSpace as a software solution for fixed and portable planetarium experiences, and collectively, they will review their experience with the installation, implementation, and operation of OpenSpace and share lessons learned working with the software. The workshop will include guidance for attendees on getting started with OpenSpace, formatting OpenSpace for different theaters, specification of hardware for low-cost planetarium systems, familiarization with controls, and development of extensions with webpanel controls. Atendees will leave the session with a solid introduction into program creation and operation with OpenSpace to get them started. 

Participants are encouraged to bring a Windows, Linux, or intel-chipset Mac laptop. The workshop will primarily focus on using OpenSpace in a Windows environment.
