Creating Fulldome Content with Unreal Engine 5

Thomas Niemann (Planetarium Mannheim)

Presentation theme: fulldome

The Unreal Engine 5 is an impressive and powerful tool that is also very well suited to the creation of fulldome films. The engine offers a number of advantages compared to conventional 3D software for film production. One of these advantages is real-time rendering, which allows scenes to be viewed in real time.

Another major advantage is the high-quality graphics and visual effects for which the Unreal Engine is known. It is not only used for the development of AAA games, but is also excellent for the creation of high-quality visual effects and animations in films. Another valuable resource is the Unreal Engine's extensive asset library, which contains a wide range of 3D models, materials and animations. This greatly speeds up content creation as developers can access a wealth of resources to bring their visions to life.

This workshop will use a sample project to demonstrate how fulldome content can be created using the engine.
